Once I started doing remodeling work, it didn’t take long for me to realize that there had to be a better vehicle to work out of than the 1998 Ford Taurus I had at the time. So I got online and started looking for a van that I could pick up for around a grand. I ended up finding a 1988 Ford Econoline van for around $1400 and my new remodeling life suddenly got 10 times easier. As my tool collection grew I installed wood shelving and a variety of tool hooks in just about every nook and cranny imaginable. The van served me well for many remodeling jobs and was probably one of the most solid vehicles I had ever owned. However, as I continued to add more and more tools in the van, the weight began to effect the transmission. It was once again time to look for a bigger vehicle, which ended up being a 1996 Box Truck. When I look back on that first work van, I am reminded of many fond “git-r-done” memories and I strongly recommend that every person should have the experience of owning and “custom rigging” their own 1988 work van at least once in their lifetime.
